Students of Guelph, Ontario's Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School, presented General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, with a national leadership award they bestow annually. About 800 students as well as Second World War, Korean and peacekeeping veterans, local politicians and Guelph's Fire and Police Chiefs attended the award ceremony.

The National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign (NDWCC) recognition ceremony was held at the Cartier Square Drill Hall. About 350 NDWCC volunteers participated in the event, including Deputy Minister Robert Fonberg, Chief of the Defence Staff General Walt Natynczyk, and Brigadier-General John Madower, as the NDWCC Champion.
