About 800 students as well as Second World War, Korean and peacekeeping veterans, local politicians and Guelph's Fire and Police Chiefs attended the award ceremony.

General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, met with members of the Canadian Rangers, 440 Transport Squadron and The Loyal Edmonton Regiment's Yellowknife Company during his visit to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and Whitehorse, Yukon.

The National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign (NDWCC) recognition ceremony was held at the Cartier Square Drill Hall. About 350 NDWCC volunteers participated in the event, including Deputy Minister Robert Fonberg, Chief of the Defence Staff General Walt Natynczyk, and Brigadier-General John Madower, as the NDWCC Champion.
